Collooney handball 40 x 20 court development starts

Collooney handball club starting work on their 40 x 20 court development today



After something like 5 years of fundraising, meetings, more meetings hard work,commitment, loyalty and dedication the Collooney handball club are celebrating the start of its new 40 x 20 handball court development today Monday August 12th. It's an historic day in the historic of the club and to its members who have steadfastly strived for this to happen.

Work will be getting under way around 12 noon  today. The cost of the new handball court will be in the region of €200,000 to build and will take 8 months to complete. Shane Malone from Boyle is the main contractor.  The club was grateful to receive €50,000 from the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport  back in January from the Sports Capital funding programme.  Collooney was one of just six handball clubs throughout the country to receive grant aid. There was over 2,000 applications for funding from all over the country in the allocated €26 million sports grants from the Government.
