Coleman wins 3 Police & Fire games World medals in handball writes Michael McGee

Curry’s Gerry Coleman is Sligo’s latest handball star having come home from the 2013 World Police & Fire games  with three handball medals (five in total) which took place in Belfast from August 1-10th last.  Coleman who works as a Nursing Officer in Loughlin House in Cavan is a member of the St. Mary’s & Collooney handball club. He also plays his One-Wall with the Cully club. Coleman faced stiff competition with players from Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Northern Ireland, U.S.A, & Ireland all taking part in a strong International field.
Coleman won a Bronze medal in the Over 40’s One-Wall, Bronze in the 40 X 20 Four Wall event, Silver in the Over 40’s doubles with L.A.P.D. Officer Oscan DeSilva.  Not content with the handball medals Coleman also won a Bronze with the Fire Service G.A.A Over-35 team and also a silver medal in the dragon boat team of 10.

An outstanding achievement from Gerry and I sincerely congratulate him on his World medals success in handball. Gerry’s sensational achievement’s has given everyone in Sligo handball circles a major boost. His tremendous feats will be one of the highlights in another amazing year in Sligo handball.
